Business Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Database Administrator 2 to support the administration, development, performance, security, and ongoing optimization of enterprise database and data warehouse environments.

This role will provide technical expertise across database administration, data warehousing, data modeling, ETL, performance tuning, database security, backup and recovery, and analytical reporting environments.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of relevant experience and have a strong understanding of enterprise-class database technologies, data warehouse architecture, ETL processes, and reporting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, monitor, and optimize integrated enterprise database systems.

  • Create and maintain production database environments.

  • Monitor database performance, storage utilization, record distribution, memory availability, and overall system efficiency.

  • Perform database and SQL performance tuning and recommend improvements.

  • Analyze proposed database changes and determine potential impacts to applications, systems, users, and related processes.

  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and other technical teams to implement database changes and enhancements.

  • Assist with the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise database solutions.

  • Evaluate requests for new data elements and incorporate approved changes into shared data environments.

  • Maintain data integrity, consistency, availability, and appropriate controls to minimize unnecessary data redundancy.

  • Perform logical and physical data modeling and develop relational database models.

  • Translate logical data models into effective physical database designs.

  • Support data warehouse and data mart development and maintenance.

  • Perform database loading, restructuring, and reorganization as required.

  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries and establish consistent data definitions and standards.

  • Determine and implement database search strategies and storage requirements.

  • Support database security standards, access controls, and data protection requirements.

  • Perform backup, restoration, and database recovery procedures.

  • Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and database recovery activities.

  • Assist with database software installation, configuration, evaluation, and implementation.

  • Support database benchmarking, threshold testing, and performance analysis.

  • Create and maintain test database environments, libraries, and procedures for application development and testing.

  • Provide technical assistance to application teams and end users regarding database functionality and data access.

  • Support accessible methods for users to enter, view, retrieve, and report data.

  • Maintain technical documentation related to database architecture, standards, procedures, and operational processes.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience in the following areas:

  • Database management systems and enterprise database administration.

  • Data warehouse management and decision-support environments.

  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts.

  • Data modeling and data warehouse population techniques.

  • Development and maintenance of data dictionaries.

  • Database access tools used for application delivery.

  • Analysis, planning, and management reporting.

  • Database benchmarking processes and performance techniques.

  • Enterprise-class relational database technologies.

  • ETL tools and data integration processes.

  • Analytical and business intelligence reporting environments.

  • Working successfully with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Data Warehousing & Data Modeling

Strong hands-on experience with:

  • Data warehouse architecture and implementation

  • Data marts

  • Logical and physical data modeling

  • Relational database design

  • Data sourcing and transformation

  • Data loading

  • Structured Query Language, SQL

  • Database and SQL performance tuning

  • Data population techniques

  • Star Schema

  • Snowflake Schema

  • Highly normalized data models

Candidates should understand the complete data warehouse implementation lifecycle, from business requirements and logical modeling through physical database design, data sourcing, transformation, loading, SQL development, reporting, and end-user access.

ETL & Database Technologies

Experience with GUI-based ETL tools such as:

  • Informatica

  • IBM DataStage

  • Comparable enterprise ETL platforms

Implementation experience with enterprise-class databases such as:

  • Oracle

  • SQL Server

  • Teradata

  • Comparable relational database technologies

Business Intelligence & Reporting

Experience implementing or supporting analytical and reporting platforms such as:

  • BusinessObjects

  • Cognos

  • Hyperion

  • MicroStrategy

  • Comparable enterprise reporting and analytics platforms

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Strong database administration and troubleshooting skills.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to analyze complex and unusual technical problems and develop effective solutions.

  • Strong understanding of database structures, architecture, and current database technologies.

  • Knowledge of computer systems, programming concepts, and systems design.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and competing priorities.

  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully with technical and non-technical groups.

  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to application teams and end users.

  • Understanding of accessibility standards as they relate to database administration, data entry, data retrieval, and reporting interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Oracle Database experience

  • 5+ years of Power BI report development experience
