About This Role:

Prince William County Police is excited to welcome a skilled Data Scientist to our dynamic team. If you have a strong background in data analysis, statistical modeling, and SQL, we would love to hear from you. In this role, you will work within the Police Department, analyzing complex datasets to derive actionable insights, developing predictive models, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making, ultimately making a positive and lasting impact on our county. You will collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets from various sources to ensure data quality and usability. Additionally, you will develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms, analyze and interpret complex data to identify trends, patterns, and correlations that inform our decisions, and create data visualizations and dashboards to effectively communicate findings to stakeholders. You will partner with business units to understand their data needs and provide analytical support, facilitating data-driven decision-making. Performing exploratory data analysis to uncover hidden opportunities and inform strategic business strategies will be a key part of your role. Furthermore, you will validate and optimize models to ensure their accuracy and reliability, staying current with industry trends, tools, and techniques in data science and analytics to continuously improve your skills and methodologies. Minimum Requirements:

High School diploma or G.E.D. and 5 years of related experience or expertise in data analytics.

Preferences:

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree with 5 years of related experience, expertise in data analytics and scientific methodology, and a passion for improving police operations. They should be adept at determining appropriate analytic approaches and computing techniques, and skilled in extracting, synthesizing, visualizing, analyzing, and communicating insights from complex datasets. Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to convey complex analyses to non-technical stakeholders, and excellent interpersonal skills for developing relationships with diverse agencies are required. The candidate should have proven experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar role, proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, SQL, Transact-SQL, Records Management Systems, and Computer Aided Dispatch, and a strong understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment are crucial.

Work Schedule:

37.5 hours weekly, typically Monday through Friday.

Starting Salary Range: $83,272.80 - $97,968.00
