Pay Rate: $40 - $50 per hour

Position Description:

We are seeking a Data Governance Analyst to support enterprise data governance initiatives focused on secure and permanent data deletion. This role will work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to identify data retention and deletion requirements, translate business needs into technical specifications, and support the implementation and testing of data deletion controls across cloud data environments.

The ideal candidate combines strong communication and analytical skills with practical SQL knowledge and experience working with cloud-based data platforms. This individual will serve as a bridge between business and technology teams, helping ensure data deletion processes are implemented effectively and aligned with established governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business data owners to identify data retention requirements, deletion criteria, and governance needs for existing datasets.
• Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and coordinate with data engineering teams to implement data deletion controls.
• Conduct dataset discovery and inventory across data lake environments, documenting data assets, locations, and relevant metadata.
• Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of data deletion processes aligned with established governance frameworks and organizational requirements.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate data deletion controls, verify expected outcomes, identify discrepancies, and document findings.
• Use SQL to query datasets, perform joins, investigate data, and support validation and analysis activities.
• Work with cloud data platforms and processing tools to support data discovery, analysis, and deletion-control testing.
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to communicate requirements, resolve issues, track progress, and ensure alignment throughout implementation.
• Maintain technical documentation, testing evidence, and governance records to support data integrity, control effectiveness, and auditability.

Required Qualifications

• Experience in data governance, data management, data analysis, data engineering, data quality, or a related field.
• Practical SQL experience, including querying datasets, filtering records, and performing joins for data analysis and validation.
• Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure; experience with AWS may also be considered.
• Familiarity with Databricks and cloud data lake environments.
• Exposure to Python and/or PySpark for data processing, analysis, or validation.
• Experience with data testing, data quality validation, control testing, or similar technical validation activities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical tasks and explain technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and project coordination skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with business owners, data teams, and technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data retention, data lifecycle management, secure data deletion, or data purging processes.
• Familiarity with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Delta Lake, and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Experience with dataset discovery, data inventory, metadata management, or data cataloging.
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data controls, and testing methodologies.
• Experience validating data deletion outcomes and documenting control effectiveness.

Technical Skills

• SQL: Data querying, joins, filtering, and validation.
• Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure preferred; AWS experience may be considered.
• Data Platforms: Databricks and cloud data lakes.
• Data Processing: Python and PySpark.
• Azure Technologies: ADLS, Delta Lake, and Azure Data Factory.
• Governance and Testing: Data retention, deletion controls, data quality, metadata management, and test execution.
