Data Engineer
Position Location: Pittsburgh, PA, 15222, Onsite 5 days a week.
Length of Assignment: 2 months contract to hire role
Pay Rate: $45 to 50/hr. on W2 ONLY
Function of the Group: Support Costing and Profitability for Line of Business
Initiatives/Projects: Costing for Customer Profitability
Industry background: Finance or banking-preferred, solid understanding of data-required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Analyzes and evaluates requirements by working with users, product owners and management and provides recommendations on the scope and complexity of the solution. Collaborate with Finance Product owners and analysts to gather requirements and implement data solutions that meet business needs. Proactive and detail-oriented professional with strong sense of ownership Creative problem solver who can tackle complex data challenges. Mentor who can guide junior engineers and contributes to team growth. Proposes & designs data solutions to address complex business needs. Prepares technical and procedural documentation required. Acts as a lead by developing and documenting technical specifications for proposed solutions. This includes hands-on coding and testing as well to support solutions. Participates in code reviews & overall testing. Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills.
Must Have Technical Skills (4-6 Years of experience):
1. Strong experience in data engineering and ETL development,
2. Strong experience with Informatica (PowerCenter and/or Informatica Cloud/IICS),
3. Advanced SQL, PL/SQL skills and experience with large-scale data transformations,
4. Experience with data warehousing platforms (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata),
5. Writing and optimizing code for data pipelines to ensure systems are highly efficient, scalable, and capable of handling large-scale financial datasets,
6. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments,
7. Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with finance and business stakeholders.
Flex Skills/Nice to Have:
1. Proficient with code deployment tools such as Udeploy, Artifactory.
2. Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
3. Knowledge of financial and cost data, preferably Activity Based Costing & customer profitability systems.
Education/Certifications: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
Pre-Screening Questions:
1. Describe a scenario where you designed or optimized a large-scale ETL pipeline using Informatica and SQL/PLSQL for a data warehouse.
2. How did you ensure performance, scalability, and data quality when processing high-volume financial data?
3. What specific techniques (e.g., partitioning, pushdown optimization, indexing) did you apply, and how did you validate the improvements.
Interview Process: Two interviews, 1st round 30-45 mins with manager, 2nd round 1 hour deep dive technical interview panel
