Location: Atlanta, GA 30308 –Hybrid
Duration: September 14, 2026 –October 31, 2027
Pay Rate: $72/hr - $77.14/hr
Shift Timings: 1st shift


Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer 4 to support Southern Company’s Analytics and Innovation team. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience manipulating and engineering data in a software engineering environment, with strong expertise in SQL, data modeling, database technologies, and modern data engineering tools.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data engineering solutions.
  • Manipulate and transform data from multiple sources into consistent, machine-readable formats.
  • Develop datasets that support business, analytical, and application requirements.
  • Work with relational databases, NoSQL systems, and data lakes.
  • Normalize databases and ensure data structures meet application requirements.
  • Perform data modeling, database design, and schema development.
  • Integrate raw data from diverse sources and create reliable, reusable datasets.
  • Develop and optimize data processing solutions using Spark, Hive, and Airflow.
  • Write complex and optimized SQL queries for data transformation and analysis.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, scalability, and accessibility.
  • Troubleshoot data pipelines and resolve data-related technical issues.
  • Follow established software engineering and data governance standards.
     
Required Skills
  • 10+ years of professional experience in data engineering/software engineering with significant data manipulation experience.
  • Advanced SQL skills.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling and database design.
  • Experience with relational databases and NoSQL technologies.
  • Experience working with data lakes and large-scale datasets.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Spark.
  • Hands-on experience with Hive.
  • Hands-on experience with Airflow.
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data integration.
  • Experience normalizing databases and designing efficient data structures.
  • Ability to combine and transform data from multiple sources.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
     
Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and extensive relevant professional experience may be considered.
