Data Center Technician

Location: Denver, CO

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 6 months
  • Pay Rate: $33.00 $35.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 PM 5:00 AM with some flexibility needed based on scheduled work. All initial training will be done Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM for the first 2 weeks; candidates must be available for this initial training.
  • Overtime: Overtime applicable.
  • Conversion to Permanent: Yes this position has potential to convert to a full-time employee (FTE) role.
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Job Summary

This role utilizes advanced skills to perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs in a Data Center operation. Oversight of electrical and mechanical systems, including but not limited to: Universal Power Supply (UPS) systems, generators, chillers, Electrical Distribution, HVAC systems, Building Management Systems (BMS) systems, and CMMS Work Dispatching. This role will be more of an administrative role taking data that has already been compiled and putting it into one form.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily site inspections of all Mechanical & Engineering (M&E) systems and technical equipment, including servicing and maintenance.
  • Under close supervision, complete assigned work according to established processes and procedures in accordance with Environment, Health and Safety Policy ensuring all safety processes and PPE requirements are followed.
  • Ensure all regulatory requirements and quality standards are met.
  • Oversee third-party vendors, ensuring compliance with developed processes, procedures, and all applicable laws/regulations.
  • Accompany vendors on site visits on an as-needed basis and ensure site standards are met.
  • Help create and develop work processes, Job Hazard Analysis reports, and SOPs for critical work with risk assessment.
  • Ensure that CERM documents and logbooks are updated.
  • Complete all required training in order to ensure successful completion of all job-related responsibilities.
  • Conduct rounds and reads inspections.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance.
  • Escort 3rd party vendors.
  • Manage Work Orders.
  • May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or training to coworkers.
  • May coordinate work and assign tasks.
  • Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines.

  • Basic knowledge of financial terms and principles; ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages
  • Experience in a financial setting working with billing and payables; prior experience using a financial system; and the ability to use Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations
  • Ability to solve problems in standard situations; requires basic analytical skills
  • Knowledge of emergency response/standby/call out activities and protocols

Preferred Skills

  • Certified Electrician or HVAC technician preferred
  • Ability to share knowledge with fellow technicians
  • Multi-skilled in HVAC is a plus
  • Strong background in either HVAC or Electrical

Education Requirements

  • Completed Trade School Program required
  • High School Diploma/GED required, with 2 4 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering, preferred
  • Certificates and/or Licenses: None formally required per job description (see Preferred Skills for preferred certifications)

Required Experience

  • 4 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Prior Data Center experience specifically on the Mechanical/Electrical Operations side required

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • 2 4 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Data Center environment; on-site presence required Monday Friday, night shift (8:00 PM 5:00 AM)
  • Initial training period requires availability Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM for the first 2 weeks
  • Some schedule flexibility needed based on scheduled work
  • Background check required: Safety-specific background package with drug screen
  • PPE requirements must be followed per Environment, Health and Safety Policy
  • Overtime applicable
