JOB TITLE: Mechanical Engineer, Modular R&D- 25% travel required
LOCATION: Austin, TX, NYC, San Francisco, CA, Phoenix, AZ, or Seattle, WA preferred. Strong remote candidates will be considered. 25% travel required for all locations.
DURATION: FTE Direct Hire
RATE RANGE: 165-206K/year plus equity
**TOP SKILLS:**
• 7+ years designing mechanical systems for modular infrastructure, cooling systems, industrial equipment, or manufactured products.
• Experience designing liquid cooling systems, pumps, heat exchangers, piping systems, cooling towers, or heat rejection systems.
• Experience developing P&IDs, equipment layouts, piping drawings, and fabrication-ready mechanical packages.
• Experience supporting prototype builds, first-article reviews, factory acceptance testing, or production launches.
• Experience working directly with fabrication shops, manufacturers, installers, or production teams to resolve design issues.
• Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, Creo, or similar 3D mechanical design tools.
Role Scope
Engineer the mechanical systems of the modular product: cooling, piping, and airflow from concept to released drawings.
Own the liquid cooling loops, pumps, and heat rejection design the modular product's density depends on.
Solve the integration problems where mechanical meets structure and electrical: routing, interfaces, and tolerances where the disciplines collide.
Support the factory and field: mechanical RFIs answered same-day, fixes engineered into the next revision.
Prototype and validate: mockups, fit checks, and first-article reviews you attend in person.
You've engineered mechanical systems for complex physical products or modular construction hands-on.
Your drawings build clean: fabricators rarely call, and when they do you fix the drawing.
You work across disciplines instead of throwing problems over walls.
You've supported production launches of your own designs.
You iterate fast without losing configuration control.
Bonus: Liquid cooling depth. Sheet metal and piping design. 3D CAD mastery (SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit). DFM instincts.
Design the module that makes 6-month data centers possible. Fluidstack builds data centers in months, not years, and that speed lives in the modular product: a data center engineered as a manufactured unit, not a construction project.
Take designs from concept to the manufacturing line in weeks. Concept, released drawings, first article, and rate production on a compressed schedule, with the factory building from your work the same month you release it.
Engineer for the thousandth unit, not the first. On the way to 10 GW, every drawing, tolerance, and BOM decision has to survive rate manufacturing, so repeatability is designed in from the start.
