Position Overview

CalTek Staffing is seeking an experienced Data Center Infrastructure Engineer to support an innovative technology company in San Jose, California. This individual will serve as the owner's technical representative for critical server room infrastructure projects, ensuring electrical, HVAC, and facility systems are properly designed, upgraded, and capable of supporting current and future hardware deployments.

This is a highly visible role requiring both technical expertise and project leadership. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, contractors, and consultants to oversee infrastructure improvements while ensuring operational continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical owner for server room and data center infrastructure projects.
  • Evaluate existing electrical capacity, power distribution, and cooling systems to determine readiness for new equipment installations.
  • Develop recommendations for infrastructure upgrades supporting current and future compute requirements.
  • Coordinate electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and low-voltage contractors throughout project execution.
  • Review engineering drawings, equipment specifications, and contractor proposals.
  • Oversee installation activities to ensure work complies with project requirements and industry best practices.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, risks, and milestones.
  • Coordinate planned outages and infrastructure modifications while minimizing operational impact.
  • Document infrastructure changes, equipment inventories, and facility standards.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical, mechanical, and building codes.
  • Partner with IT and engineering teams to support ongoing server room operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience supporting mission-critical facilities, data centers, or server room infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Electrical distribution systems
    • UPS systems
    • Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
    • HVAC and precision cooling systems
    • Rack power and cable management
    • Generator systems (preferred)
  • Experience managing infrastructure expansion or renovation projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, mechanical drawings, and construction documents.
  • Strong vendor and contractor management experience.
  • Excellent communication and project coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting semiconductor, hardware development, or high-performance computing environments.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE thermal guidelines for data centers.
  • Familiarity with Tier I-IV data center design concepts.
  • Experience with capacity planning and infrastructure assessments.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • Experience with Schneider Electric, Vertiv, Client, APC, Liebert, or similar mission-critical infrastructure solutions is desirable.
