Overview:
This role supports and enhances an established AWS-based enterprise data platform delivering structured HR, Finance, and Procurement data sourced from systems such as Workday and Ariba. The environment follows a medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold), with data products built using S3, AWS Glue, and Starburst, and consumed by business users through Tableau, APIs, and direct SQL access.
This is a hands-on engineering position, not an architecture position. The primary focus is operational support, troubleshooting, data quality improvement, and enhancement of existing pipelines and data products alongside a current team of six to seven engineers supporting both new development and production operations.

Qualifications:
" Minimum 5 years of hands-on data engineering experience
" Minimum 5 years working with AWS data tooling, specifically S3 and AWS Glue
" Advanced SQL skills, including the ability to read, debug, and optimize complex queries
" Strong Python development experience for data processing, transformation, and automation
" Experience working with PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases
" Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot data issues and determine whether the root cause resides in the data, the Python code, or the SQL queries
" Experience building and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines for structured data sources
" Experience recommending and implementing data quality checks and validation logic
" Experience with Git and GitLab for version control and code collaboration
" Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Have:
" Experience with Starburst or similar federated SQL query engines
" Experience with Workday or Ariba data structures
" Experience with Tableau or similar BI/reporting tools
" Exposure to Terraform for infrastructure enhancements
" IT-related certifications

Responsibilities:
" Provide operational support for existing data pipelines and data products, including monitoring, incident response, and root cause analysis
" Troubleshoot data issues across the bronze, silver, and gold layers and resolve failures in ingestion, transformation, and publication processes
" Analyze Python code and SQL queries to isolate defects and implement corrections
" Recommend, design, and implement data quality checks to improve accuracy, completeness, and reliability of published datasets
" Enhance and optimize existing AWS Glue jobs, S3-based data flows, and gold layer views for performance and maintainability
" Support downstream consumers accessing data through Tableau, APIs, and SQL query interfaces
" Partner with business stakeholders across HR, Finance, and Procurement to understand reporting needs and resolve data discrepancies
" Maintain documentation for pipelines, transformations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational runbooks
" Contribute to infrastructure enhancements, including Terraform-based changes where applicable
" Participate in code reviews and follow established engineering standards using Git and GitLab
" Collaborate as part of an Agile team, balancing operational support responsibilities with ongoing enhancement work

Success Profile:
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who is comfortable owning production support, diagnosing data problems quickly, and continuously improving pipeline reliability and data quality. SQL and Python proficiency are the most critical technical requirements, followed by practical AWS experience with S3 and Glue. This individual will primarily pick up operational support and enhancement work as the platform continues to expand.
