The Data Analyst will play an important role in supporting data-driven decision-making across Finance & Operations, helping ensure that university leaders and departments have access to accurate, timely, and actionable information. From financial reporting and systems testing to technology implementation and data integrity, this position will connect people, data, technology, and institutional priorities.
What You'll Do
Under general supervision, the Data Analyst will analyze and interpret institutional and financial data while supporting the accuracy, integrity, maintenance, and effective use of university data systems.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Data Analysis:
Identifies business needs and requirements and researches technical aspects of potential technology purchases. Designs, develops, and assists with the implementation of programs/ software and understands and troubleshoots integrations between various finance and other university systems. Creates detailed functional specifications and works closely with the Budget, Finance, and Operations teams to support upgrades, enhancements, testing of new technologies. Develops and completes thorough test cases and scripts and executes. Documents findings and sends approval to move functionality to production environment or fails back functionality for further development and testing. Other data analysis and reporting needs as requested by the Finance and Operations Office.

Data Reporting:
Design, build, and maintain financial databases to support university-wide reporting. Develop dashboards and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Sequel Servers, etc.) to support leadership decision-making. Utilize computational and data science techniques to structure large datasets (e.g., enrollment, grants, and operational data)

Data Management:
Oversees generation and updating of reports using Finance and other university system reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel, PeopleAdmin, and PeopleSoft, Intranet, Anaplan, etc. as required, including divisions, campuses, the USC system. Ensures reporting deadlines are met, data is accurate, and department needs are fulfilled in a timely manner.

Maintains current data collection and tracking, analysis, and reporting of internal programs. Supports timely development, administration, and analysis for reporting. Supports data governance initiative, including developing and maintaining standard operating procedures and dictionaries for databases.
