    About the Role

    The correspondent is first and foremost a storyteller responsible for providing clear and concise reports after gathering and verifying factual information through interviews, observations, and research. The incumbent organizes all material, determines the emphasis and writes story or stories to fit the standard formats.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    The following tasks are considered essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions:

    • Leverage knowledge of assigned beats to bring relevant and significant story proposals to news meetings.
    • Conduct interviews with news sources having a wide variety of views and expertise.
    • Evaluate and analyze leads and tips to develop story ideas.
    • Cultivate and maintain credible news sources.
    • Write scripts and oversee production to ensure broadcast quality of stories and reports.
    • Present live or taped interviews and voice-over reports in studio or field.
    • Update previously reported stories.
    • Develop original, imaginative and creative ways to tell/show news stories.
    • Coordinate news coverage with Producers, Cameraman, Editors and news management.
    • Develop original story ideas for features and special events consistent with the company's mission.
    • Report breaking news with accuracy and urgency.
    • Edit or assist in editing videos for broadcast.
    • Check reports for balance, clarity, and objectivity to ensure they are free of bias and advocacy.
    • Read and edit news copy to ensure that it contains no slanderous content.
    • Maintain knowledge and understanding of world events.

    OTHER DUTIES:

    • The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

    • College degree in Journalism or a related field preferred.
    • 2-3 year previous experience as an on-camera correspondent.
    • Demonstrate strong news judgment and organizational skills
    • Ability to prioritize and make quick decisions.
    • Ability to write clear and concise news stories.
    • Ability to communicate and translate from English to classic Arabic.
    • Discretion, maturity and composure especially under pressure.
    • Superior story writing and storytelling ability.
    • Good creative and editorial judgment. Mastery of journalistic ethics and libel laws.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Proficient with internet, database and computer assisted reporting techniques

    • Inquisitive and self-directed.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Self-discipline and time-management skills.
    • Comfortable on-camera - particularly in live situations.
    • Able to work effectively with all levels of management and staff in a professional manner.
    • Possess and maintain a valid drivers' license (preferred) with a driving record acceptable to the company.
    • Accommodate flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays and irregular hours at a moments notice.
