    POSITION OVERVIEW Daily Substitute Instructional Assistants provide short -term support to students in special education, prekindergarten, or charter school programs during the absence of the regularly assigned instructional assistant. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher and/or school administrator, the substitute instructional assistant supports the implementation of instructional activities and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), assists with student supervision, and provides personal care or ph ysical assistance as required by student needs. The substitute instructional assistant helps maintain a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment for the duration of the assignment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Student Support & Supervision Support and monitor students with disabilities or developmental needs during instructional and non-instructional activities. Assist students in participating in classroom routines, learning activities, and transitions. Supervise students to ensure safety during classroom, recreational, and school-based activities. Support student behavior in accordance with teacher direction and school expectations.

    IEP & Instructional Assistance Assist in the implementation of IEP goals and objectives as directed by licensed staff. Support student progress toward independence using strategies provided by instructional staff. Set up, adapt, and assist with instructional materials, equipment, and assistive devices as directed. Assist with administering, scoring, and recording assessments as assigned.

    Personal Care, Physical Support & Safety Assist students with routine physical and/or personal care needs not requiring nursing services, as directed. Support classroom accessibility, including mobility assistance and positioning. Carry out emergency action plans, health care plans, and crisis intervention techniques as trained and directed. Assist with physically aggressive behaviors when required and in accordance with training.

    Maintain confidentiality of student information. Work effectively as part of a classroom or school-based team. Maintain regular and predictable attendance and follow assigned schedules. Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or administrator.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education/Training/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). For Title I school assignments: completion of 48 college credits, Associate's degree, or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment. Must be at least 18 years of age; individuals assigned to high school placements must be at least 21 years of age.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education/Training/Experience: Associate of Arts degree College coursework related to child development, education, or special education. Prior experience working with children in an educational setting. Experience supporting students with disabilities. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish. Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL).
