    Cytogenetics Lab Supervisor

    We are seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily laboratory operations, staff performance, workflow, and quality within an assigned section. This role is responsible for maximizing personnel, equipment, and resources while maintaining high technical and quality standards. The Supervisor will provide hands-on technical support, oversee complex testing, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote efficient laboratory operations. Cytogenetics experience is preferred.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee daily laboratory operations, workflow, staffing assignments, priorities, and scheduling.
    • Supervise laboratory staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluations, staff development, and corrective counseling.
    • Perform and oversee advanced or specialized laboratory testing and troubleshoot complex or questionable results.
    • Review and approve specialized and problem reports for accuracy and quality.
    • Evaluate testing methodologies and recommend improvements or additional testing when appropriate.
    • Establish and monitor quality control measures to ensure compliance with laboratory standards.
    • Provide bench coverage and perform technologist duties during staffing shortages or periods of high workload.
    • Complete employee training, competency assessments, and required documentation.
    • Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in a safe, sanitary, and functional condition.
    • Participate in regulatory inspections and ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
    • Complete special projects, reports, surveys, studies, and other departmental initiatives.
    • Communicate effectively with clients, laboratory personnel, management, and other departments.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications / Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related laboratory science required.
    • Minimum 6 years of clinical laboratory experience.
    • Minimum 5 years of full-time supervisory experience.
    • Must meet applicable New York State laboratory requirements.
    • Strong theoretical and operational knowledge within the assigned laboratory specialty.
    • Proven leadership, staff management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
    • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and client information.
    • Cytogenetics experience preferred.
    • ASCP certification preferred; ASCP Cytogenetics certification highly desirable.
    • Previous supervisory experience within a large reference laboratory environment is preferred.
    • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, operate laboratory instrumentation requiring manual dexterity, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
