The Die Cast CNC Operator is responsible for operating CNC machines to produce precision metal components used in die cast manufacturing. This role includes setting up jobs, loading/unloading parts, verifying dimensions, documenting production, and maintaining a safe, organized work area while meeting quality and output requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate CNC machining centers (mills/lathes as applicable) to machine die cast components to specification.
- Read and follow work instructions, routers, and basic blueprints/prints.
- Load/unload castings and fixtures; start/stop cycles; monitor machine operation during runtime.
- Perform in-process inspections using measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, go/no-go gauges).
- Check parts for defects (burrs, porosity issues impacting machining, surface damage) and maintain quality standards.
- Deburr, clean, and package parts as required; maintain part identification/traceability.
- Record production counts, scrap, and downtime; communicate issues to the lead/supervisor.
- Perform basic machine care (cleaning, coolant level checks, chip removal) and follow preventive maintenance checklists.
- Follow all safety rules and PPE requirements; keep work area clean (5S).
Qualifications
- 1+ year CNC machine operation experience preferred (production environment).
- Experience machining aluminum/zinc die cast parts a plus.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools and understand tolerances.
- Basic blueprint reading and understanding of feeds/speeds is a plus.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work independently in a fast-paced production setting.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Standing/walking for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting/moving materials up to 30 lbs.
- Manufacturing environment with noise, oils/coolants, and metal chips (PPE required).
