About the Firm
We are a premier international trade law boutique in Washington, D.C., representing major U.S. importers, respondent-side private companies, and national trade associations across key commercial sectors, including solar, furniture, chemicals, home furnishings, metallurgy, construction lumber, and plywood. Our practice sits at the forefront of high-stakes trade remedy disputes, border enforcement, and import compliance. We offer the sophisticated practice of a top-tier trade practice group paired with an agile, highly collaborative firm environment.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced non-attorney Customs Audit & Import Compliance Specialist to join our trade practice group. Working directly alongside partners and commercial import clients, you will manage import compliance programs, analyze complex entry records, perform data reconciliations, and audit import operations to minimize duty exposure and ensure full alignment with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) standards.
Key Responsibilities
Import Audits & Reconciliations: Conduct detailed audits of commercial entry documentation, general ledgers, purchase orders, and entry summaries (CBP Form 7501) for major importers to identify valuation, country-of-origin, and classification discrepancies.
CBP Inquiries & Enforcement Support: Assist in drafting responses to administrative CBP inquiries, including Request for Information notices (CF-28) and Notice of Action forms (CF-29).
Tariff & Entry Analysis: Review Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, Section 301/232 tariff treatments, AD/CVD duty calculations, and duty savings programs across key import sectors.
Supply Chain & Trade Remediation: Analyze supply chain workflows, First Sale for Export procedures, and forced labor compliance risk assessments (such as UFLPA) for respondent-side commercial importers.
Data System Analysis: Utilize Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) reports and commercial trade databases to synthesize large entry datasets into actionable client compliance summaries and duty minimization strategies.
Qualifications
Experience: 3 to 7+ years of dedicated import compliance, entry auditing, or customs analysis experience.
Preferred Backgrounds: Prior experience as an in-house import compliance analyst for commercial importers, a customs audit consultant within an advisory firm, or service as a regulatory auditor with CBP.
Technical Skills: Deep familiarity with ACE reporting, HTS classification, valuation rules, and trade remedy frameworks (AD/CVD). Exceptional proficiency in Excel and financial/data reconciliation.
Credentials: Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation is strongly preferred, but relevant hands-on audit experience is paramount.
Education: Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, Economics, or International Business.
