Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) serves as the alcohol wholesaler for Montgomery County and oversees retail operations, licensing, compliance, and community engagement around alcohol products and services. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ABS is recruiting for a Customer Service Representative II (Community Engagement Specialist). We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual who enjoys coordinating schedules, assisting with special function requests, and working with internal and external stakeholders to support ABS retail operations.
What You'll Be Doing
This role supports ABS's mission by strengthening community relationships and administrative scheduling/coordination support used to educate the public about responsible alcohol use, product knowledge, and department services.
  • Meet with license holders, suppliers, distributors, and retailers to identify opportunities for collaboration and community engagement.
  • Respond to inquiries about alcohol products, policies, and trends within Montgomery County.
  • Identify priority issues and elevate them to management.
  • Administrative scheduling/coordination for special functions for our retail stores.
  • Assisting with preparing informational materials
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, Canva, and social media platforms to support scheduling, design, planning, and
  • recordkeeping.
A criminal background check will be conducted on the selected candidate prior to appointment and will be a significant factor in the hiring decision.

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Work Schedule: This part-time position (20-30 hours per week) may include some evening and weekend hours to support community engagement activities, public events, industry partner meetings, and/or ABS promotional events.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience performing a wide variety of general clerical, reception, public contact, and public service work, providing information and/or directing request over the telephone and at a public counter.
Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Medical Protocol: This position requires successful completion of a pre-employment medical evaluation, which includes a physical examination and drug screening.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Leave Benefits

Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year. Positions in MLS earn 35 days of paid time off each year. In addition, we offer all employees 10 paid holidays. Retirement Benefits

All permanent and term positions are eligible for robust retirement plans. Public safety positions are eligible for a defined benefit pension plan in which they are vested after only five years. Employees in non-public safety positions can participate in retirement plans that contribute up to 12 percent of their annual salary. All employees can also participate in a supplemental retirement plan, the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, to contribute even more to their retirement goals.

Montgomery County employees are eligible to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Participants who meet all requirements may qualify for forgiveness on the remaining balance on their Direct Loans after making 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time in a qualifying public service position.
