    Position Overview:

    A Customer Service Agent: Import/Export is responsible for managing the administrative tasks involved in the international shipment of goods, including preparing necessary documentation, coordinating with customs authorities, tracking cargo movement, and ensuring compliance with import/export regulations, to facilitate the smooth flow of goods across borders.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

    • Prepare and review all import/export documentation such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, customs declarations, and certificates of origin to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations;

    • Coordinate with suppliers and customers to gather necessary documentation for shipments;

    • Submitting customs entries electronically and managing customs clearance processes;

    • Monitor the movement of cargo throughout the shipping process, including tracking shipments from

    origin to destination using shipping line and customs systems;

    • Communicate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and customs brokers to resolve any issues related to cargo delays or discrepancies;

    • Arrange transportation for cargo, including booking shipping space, coordinating pick-up and delivery

    arrangements with carriers, and managing inland freight;

    • Calculate and manage shipping costs, including duties, taxes, and freight charges;

    • Respond to inquiries from customers and suppliers regarding shipment status, documentation

    requirements, and customs clearance procedures;

    • Resolve customer issues related to import/export processes in a timely manner;

    • Stay updated on current import/export regulations and trade laws to ensure compliance with all relevant

    standards;

    • Import/export clerks perform many tasks as part of their duties. These duties range from receiving orders

    and packing items to ship to arranging shipping routes, invoicing, and monitoring order status;

    • Make sure goods clear customs and make it safely to their destination. Calculate duties and taxes owed

    on shipments;

    • Pay any shipping duties and taxes. Classify goods by the tariff coding system;

    • Prepare import/export documentation so that it complies with customs laws.

    Required Skills and Experience:

    • Ability to speak English;

    • Ability to accurately review and manage complex paperwork with high levels of precision;

    • Proficiency in using computer systems to input and manage shipment data;

    • Excellent verbal and written communication to interact effectively with internal and external

    stakeholders;

    • Ability to identify and resolve issues related to customs clearance, shipping logistics, and documentation;

    Work Environment:

    • Typically, office-based, with interaction with various departments within a company and external parties

    like freight forwarders, customs brokers, and shipping lines;

    • May require occasional work outside of standard business hours to accommodate international time

    zones and urgent shipments;

    • Working conditions may include for example occasional evening and weekend work including working

    with challenging clients, occasional out of hours work and in a highly targeted, fast-paced environment;

    • The job holder is required to adequately manage themselves in an environment with the pressure of a

    fast-paced and highly targeted work environment and to communicate any excessive pressure or other

    types of demands.
