    Customer Account Specialist – Manufacturing

    Position Summary

    The Customer Account Specialist – Manufacturing serves as a key point of contact for existing and prospective customers, supporting customer relationships and coordinating with internal departments to ensure customer requirements are met. This position is responsible for managing customer accounts, processing orders, providing pricing and product information, coordinating customer requirements, and supporting sales growth while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

    The ideal candidate will have experience working with customers in a manufacturing environment and be comfortable working across multiple departments to coordinate orders, resolve issues, and ensure customer expectations are met.

    Work Environment

    This position is primarily based in an office environment, with occasional time spent in manufacturing and production areas. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support customer needs, industry events, or business initiatives.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Follow all company safety rules, policies, and procedures, working in a manner that protects yourself and others from hazards and injuries.
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for existing customers, responding promptly to inquiries regarding products, pricing, availability, lead times, and order status.
    • Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with current customers while identifying opportunities to expand business.
    • Review finished goods inventory and provide customers with open order reports and order status updates.
    • Prepare and distribute required customer documentation, forms, reports, and sales-related paperwork.
    • Initiate contract reviews for new business opportunities and coordinate with internal departments to ensure customer requirements are met.
    • Maintain accurate customer records, sales activity, pricing information, and account information within company systems.
    • Generate and distribute reports as required by management.
    • Communicate standard manufacturing capabilities, product specifications, lead times, and other relevant information to customers.
    • Collaborate with Production, Planning, Quality, Engineering, Logistics, and other internal departments to ensure customer expectations and requirements are achieved.
    • Effectively communicate customer requirements, priorities, changes, and concerns throughout the organization.
    • Calculate metal value firming and develop corresponding customer agreements.
    • Coordinate and oversee customer-specific programs and ongoing account activities.
    • Prepare quotations, provide pricing information, review customer purchase orders, and ensure order accuracy.
    • Monitor customer orders and proactively communicate changes, delays, or other issues that may impact customer expectations.
    • Resolve customer concerns and complaints professionally while working collaboratively with internal departments to identify timely solutions.
    • Assist in identifying new sales opportunities and supporting business development initiatives.
    • Support customer retention and business growth by understanding customer needs and identifying opportunities to provide additional products or services.
    • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of 2–3 years of inside sales, customer account management, customer service, or sales support experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production scheduling, customer order management, and customer requirements.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
    • Experience working with ERP systems and/or customer relationship management (CRM) software.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships while collaborating effectively across multiple departments.
    • Ability to understand manufacturing and technical information and communicate it effectively to customers.

    Preferred

    • Experience supporting customers in the metals, industrial manufacturing, or engineered products industry.
    • Experience with contract review processes and pricing administration.
    • Knowledge of metal pricing or commodity-based products.
    • Experience working with customer purchase orders, forecasts, blanket orders, or long-term supply agreements.

    Physical Requirements

    • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
    • Ability to occasionally walk through manufacturing and production areas while following all required safety protocols.
    • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
