Job Responsibilities

The Custodian II performs moderately complex (journey-level) custodial work. Cleans, dusts, disinfects, and sanitizes to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Operates floor maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors. Requests and restocks supplies as necessary. Assists in conducting inspections of buildings and equipment for cleanliness and needed repairs. Assists in performing minor building and equipment repairs and installations. Accountable for maintaining assigned custodial equipment in good working order. Maintains outside areas around the hospital, clears trash and debris.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Performs custodial functions timely and with high quality including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows and light fixtures. Ensures proper sanitization and disinfection in accordance with training received. Cleans and maintains floors, restrooms, nurses' station, and other areas in accordance with established procedures and safety measures.

Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations Knowledge of infection control principles and methods Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods Skills in the use of custodial equipment, materials, and the safe handling chemicals Skills in the use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment Ability to stay on task and complete work timely Ability to follow written and oral instructions Ability to lift 50 pounds Ability to stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co-workers and patients Ability to work irregular hours

Initial Screening Criteria

Six months work experience required Experience in custodial or environmental services work in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel or other similar residential equivalent preferred

Additional Information

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility. Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years of age. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations is required.
