Description
The Custodian II performs a variety of custodial, housekeeping, and general maintenance tasks to provide clean, sanitary, and safe conditions in City buildings. Repairs and replaces various items including but not limited to light fixtures, switches, doors, hardware, windows, locks, etc.
This position reports to the O & M Manager who assigns daily tasks and workstations, sometimes by written order. Employees in this position may be required to perform portions, or all of the duties normally assigned to the Custodian I depending on current workload and staffing requirements.
Examples of Duties
Clean various buildings, offices, lunch, and meeting rooms.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors and wood surfaces: dusts furniture and equipment, polishes furniture and metal fixtures; empties and cleans wastebaskets; disposes of garbage, trash, and recycling; wash inside of windows and interior glass; vacuums carpets and rugs.
Cleans and keeps restrooms supplied with paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc.; cleans kitchen and breakrooms,
May assist in moving furniture and equipment or arrange tables and chairs for special events.
Performs minor maintenance and repair work such as unskilled painting, cleaning air vents, replacing faucet washers or toilet tank floats; observes and informs O & M Manager of need for minor maintenance work in assigned areas.
Maintains inventory of equipment, products, and cleaning supplies.
Ensure tasks on checklist are completed in a timely manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: cleaning equipment, agents, methods, and safety practices.
Ability to: work with minimal supervision; be proficient with handling basic maintenance repairs; handle fragile items carefully; follow oral and written instructions; work independently with minimal supervision; establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, elected officials, and the general public. Must be able to work after business hours when required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma, and valid Washington State Driver's License is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
Must be able to pass a detailed background check.
