Custodian

This position performs routine cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, and facility support services to ensure buildings, grounds, and common areas are well-maintained and presentable for employees, customers, students, visitors, or residents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clean and sanitize offices, classrooms, restrooms, break rooms, hallways, and other facility areas.

Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find a Custodian in High Point, NC. The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout assigned facilities. This position performs routine cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, and facility support services to ensure buildings, grounds, and common areas are well-maintained and presentable for employees, customers, students, visitors, or residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize offices, classrooms, restrooms, break rooms, hallways, and other facility areas.

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and polish floors.

• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.

• Clean windows, mirrors, walls, furniture, and fixtures.

• Restock restroom and facility supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.

• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, and carpet cleaners.

• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and repair needs to management.

• Assist with room setups, furniture movement, and special event preparations as needed.

• Follow all safety procedures and properly handle cleaning chemicals and equipment.

• Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.

• Ensure facility security by locking and unlocking designated areas as assigned.

• Respond promptly to spills, emergencies, and special cleaning requests.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.

• Experience operating commercial cleaning equipment is a plus.

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.

• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

• Basic knowledge of workplace safety procedures.

• Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb for extended periods.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; ability to push and pull carts, cleaning equipment, and supplies.

• Work is performed in a commercial/industrial setting with exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying temperatures.

• May require evening, weekend, holiday, or on-call work depending on facility needs.
