SUMMARY: The Facilities Technician is responsible for cleaning and maintaining all school property, ensuring all equipment, materials, etc. are available for scheduled activities for both community and student activities, removal of trash, snow, debris from exterior areas; and for serving as a representative of the District to the community, students, parents, and the general public while activities are occurring within the building or on site. The Facilities Technician is also expected to perform preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on mechanical equipment. The Facilities Technician also collaborates with the school administration to coordinate logistics related to facility setup and activity coordination. The Facilities Technician also collaborates with the teaching staff to resolve concerns and coordinate activities as necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Although some duties are limited to a particular building, all employees may be required to move or assist at another facility. Other duties may be assigned as required. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of what is expected of all employees holding this position:

General Responsibilities:

Perform preventative maintenance tasks as assigned through the work order system including work on mechanicals and report problems or issues through the system.

Collaborate with administration to plan and coordinate space setup for school activities

Collaborate with instructional staff to resolve concerns and coordinate facility preparation for activities as necessary

Interact regularly with students in an approachable, developmentally appropriate and highly professional manner, supporting a welcoming school culture for all students

Dust and damp mop all floor surfaces.

Vacuum carpets/rugs.

Empty all waste containers (Follow any recycling plans directed in the building).

Re-lamp light fixtures.

Clean interior and exterior glass.

Clean, disinfect and restock all restroom facilities.

Move furniture and equipment throughout the building.

Perform set-up and tear-down for all school and community activities.

Serve as contact point for district maintenance team, outside vendors and contractors on special projects.

Participate in Emergency Response Team as needed.

Outdoor Responsibilities:

Remove snow from walks, entrances, stairs, or public access ways.

Sand/salt all public access ways.

Patrol for litter and empty trash receptacles.

Minor gardening or landscape work including mowing

Building Security:

Secure windows, doors, and other access points.

Turn off all lights, computers, TV''s, VCR''s, etc.

Check that all gas fixtures are turned off (Lab facilities).

Responsible for ensuring security of facility.

Summer Responsibilities:

The following is a representation of the activities that occur in summer.

Classroom - Project cleaning of all classrooms includes:

Clean and remove all furniture

Dust all surfaces from ceiling to floor

Damp mop/wash all surfaces

Scrub & wax floors/shampoo carpets

Wash all windows - interior & exterior

Return all furniture to room

Non-Classroom:

Scrub and wax all hallways, entrances, stairwells, offices, and gym surfaces.

Thorough cleaning of all bathroom, locker room, kitchen, shop and pool facilities.

Activity Set-ups:

The following represents just a sample of activity set-ups required in the district. The intensity of the set-ups and number of occurrences will vary depending upon the season and the facility. Daytime lead elementary custodians are responsible for coordinating any group activities. This would include coordinating other full and/or part time custodians for the activity set-up, handling any needs or requests of the group, and problem solving in the event of any problems.

Transport, set-up, tear down choral or platform risers.

Pull, set-up, push back telescoping bleachers.

Transport, set-up, tear down tables and chairs. Ensure any equipment is in the room as specified by the activity sheet.

Supervision:

A Facilities Technician is required to oversee, train, and/or mentor custodial employees on their shift. Supervision would entail delegation of work duties, and problem-solving. The Facilities Technician is also expected to share information with second shift supervisors or employees regarding any evening activities or operations. Responsibility for any disciplinary action or evaluations would be that of the Operations Manager.
