General Statement of Duties

Forsyth Countys General Services Department is seeking motivated, detail orientated candidates for the position of Custodian. Employees in this position are responsible for the daily cleaning of assigned county buildings the dayshift. his job varies from cleaning floors, bathrooms, elevators, and office areas. As a daytime custodian with Forsyth County, an assignment could range from cleaning conference rooms at our Government Center or cleaning the medical offices at the Law Enforcement Detention Center or Public Health facility. We service multiple county buildings during the day. Due to the high volume of foot traffic, each individual employee has multiple tasks to complete on a day-to-day basis. The job requires some heavy lifting, attention to detail and spending most of the shift on your feet. Having some past cleaning and disinfecting knowledge is helpful but not required.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.

Distinguishing Features

A successful candidate should have the following knowledges, skills and abilities:

Working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment used in custodial work.

Ability to operate custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, carpet sweepers and speed buffing machines.

Ability to follow cleaning schedules for periodic cleaning of all facilities.

Ability to observe and report needs for supplies.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.

Lifting up to 20 lbs. occasionally 10 lbs frequently or negligible amounts constantly, requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Minimum Education and Experience

Ability to read and write information relevant to perform the job.

Previous janitorial and floor care experience preferred. Experience with disinfection techniques preferred.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the U.S. Department of Justices Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Applicants for this position will complete the CJIS background check at the time of an interview as a part of the recruitment process. Completion does not guarantee an offer of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Dusts and damp mops all rooms and corridors.

Sweeps floors and vacuums carpeted areas; shampoos carpets.

Strips, waxes and buffs floors.

Empties and cleans ashtrays and trash receptacles.

Washes windows, light fixtures, walls and mirrors.

Cleans bathroom fixtures and other surfaces with germicidal solutions.

Moves furniture and other office equipment.

Cleans assigned equipment and stores in proper place; restocks cleaning supplies.

Disinfects common areas and surfaces.

Performs related work as required.
