Job Summary

Facilities Management seeks an outward-focused team member with a heart for serving others. This position performs routine and detailed cleaning tasks, floor care, and minor building maintenance in municipal buildings. If you take ownership of your work and want to make a difference, please apply.

The work schedule for this position is Saturday - Wednesday 4pm - 12am with some flexibility.

Location: Public Safety Campus - Our $55 million state-of-the-art training hub includes an Administration Apparatus Bay Garage, an EVOC course/building, VR simulator (and) mat room, indoor/outdoor classrooms, indoor gun range, a fitness center, and tactical structures for police and fire rescue training and our Metro 911 Center. Nearby facilities with shared custodial services include the new Light, Power, & Traffic building and the Water Reclamation Plant.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Clean, sweep, scrub, mop, wax, wash, vacuum, or polish, as needed, floors, windows, walls, woodwork, fixtures, furniture, rugs, surfaces, cabinets, and hardware.

  2. Operate various power-equipped cleaning equipment.

  3. Clean, disinfect, and deodorize restrooms and replenish supplies.

  4. Empty wastebaskets; pick up and dispose of litter and other waste materials.

  5. Replace light bulbs; clean and polish brass, chrome, mirrors, and other metal work; and dust desks and tabletops.

  6. Report and enter work order tickets for needed repairs to facilities.

  7. Perform routine groundskeeping duties, including picking up and disposing of litter and debris on grounds, sweeping sidewalks and entrances and maintaining lawns.

  8. Perform snow and ice removal procedures including, sweeping walks, shoveling snow, operating small snow removal equipment, and spreading salt or other ice control materials.

  9. May help direct the work of temporary employees as assigned.

  10. Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and/or sound systems for conferences, conventions, and other public activities in City buildings.

  11. Assist with department moves.

  12. Turn out lights; open and secure municipal buildings.

  13. Operate City vehicles.

  14. Perform other such duties and functions as are necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or GED certification and a minimum of one (1) years' experience in custodial work; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.

Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences including the public.

Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and customers.

Ideal candidate will have a passion to serve First Responders and be able to successfully complete a thorough background screening. CJIS training must be completed upon hire.

Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and overtime as required.

Possession of a valid driver's license prior to hire is required.

Supplemental Information

  • Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, methods, and equipment employed in cleaning and maintenance operations.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of basic computer operation, including Microsoft computer applications.

  • Ability to work varied and odd hours as required by demands at various City buildings.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to learn repetitive tasks quickly.
