Title: Custodian

Work Year: 12-Month, Part Time

Department: Facilities

FLSA Status: Represented, Non-Exempt

Reports To: Head Custodian

Hours: Monday - Friday; 3:00 - 6:15pm

Hourly Rate: $22.59 Per Collective Bargaining Agreement

Position Overview:

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient school environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position performs routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and building support tasks to ensure school facilities and grounds are well-maintained and operational.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma, GED, or trade school certification required.
• Experience in custodial or maintenance work preferred.
• Valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning methods, and building maintenance.
• Ability to perform minor maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Ability to work independently and follow assigned schedules.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff and supervisors.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.

Physical and Cognitive Demands:

Work in this classification requires frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and use of tools and equipment.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 90 pounds. Tasks may include pushing and pulling equipment such as tables, bleachers, and cleaning machines.

Vision requirements include close, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with vision correctable to 20/20. The employee must be able to hear clearly in a variety of environments.

The employee regularly works indoors and occasionally outdoors. Work may occur near moving mechanical equipment and may involve exposure to cleaning agents, degreasers, and other chemicals. The position may involve working under time constraints. The noise level is typically moderate.

Travel within District as necessary.
