We are currently seeking a Maintenance Assistant (Part-Time) @ The Richardson School- Sheboygan, a MyPath Company!

Are you hands-on, safety-minded, and take pride in keeping facilities clean, functional, and welcoming? The Richardson School (TRS), a MyPath Company, is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Assistant to support the daily operations and upkeep of our school campus.

In this role, you'll play a vital part in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment for students, staff, and visitors. From routine maintenance and repairs to grounds care and equipment support, your work will directly contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Assistant supports building operations, grounds upkeep, and equipment maintenance across the campus. This includes routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, seasonal outdoor work, and coordination with vendors as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance & Repair

  • Complete maintenance work orders, assess issues, and perform repairs within scope

  • Perform routine maintenance such as painting, wall repair, unclogging drains/toilets, changing light bulbs, and minor plumbing/electrical tasks

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and routine inspections of building systems

  • Assist with HVAC, boiler, and air conditioning monitoring; escalate complex issues

  • Ensure fire inspections and safety-related maintenance tasks are completed on schedule

Grounds & Safety

  • Support seasonal grounds care including mowing, snow removal, and leaf cleanup

  • Maintain parking lots, sidewalks, roads, and entrances for safe access

  • Monitor facility cleanliness and safety; report concerns as needed

Tools, Equipment & Vendors

  • Safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance machinery

  • Assist with upkeep of school equipment, appliances, and vehicles

  • Support special projects and coordinate with external contractors when needed

Communication & Teamwork

  • Maintain professional, respectful relationships with staff, students, and vendors

  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide coverage as needed

  • Attend meetings and stay current on policies and procedures

  • Follow all safety standards, confidentiality requirements, and company policies

Schedule

  • Part-time, hourly position (20+ hours/week eligible for benefits)

  • Primarily first-shift hours with flexibility for emergency calls

  • A combination of indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions

What You'll Bring

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • At least one year of maintenance or facilities experience

  • Experience in carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical repair preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to stay calm and effective in urgent or stressful situations

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

  • Ability to read manuals, instructions, and basic blueprints

  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and work on ladders, in confined spaces, and outdoors

Additional Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record

  • Willingness to work in varied environments, including exposure to tools, cleaning products, and seasonal weather
