The Dual Language Program at Bentley Academy Innovation School is thrilled to welcome one new teacher from the Dominican Republic to teach at Bentley through the Visiting Teacher Program between the Dominican Embassy and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Cultural and Community Ambassador will act as a connection, welcomer, and essential link between the teachers and the Salem community. He/She will communicate with the visiting teacher(s) prior to their arrival in the United States, coordinate airport pick-up and temporary housing, and support the teacher(s) with their move and acclimation to the North Shore. The Cultural and Community Ambassador will support the teachers with many aspects of orientation to a new country and community including but not limited to touring the city of Salem, setting up a bank account, navigating public transit, finding local resources such as grocery stores, and becoming acclimated with the city of Salem. He/She will also act as a bridge between the teachers and Salem Public Schools to support the new teachers with initial visits to Human Capital, a tour of the Bentley school, and an overview of all the necessary aspects of teaching in the United States. While the bulk of the work will be done over August, the Cultural and Community Ambassador will create a relationship with the new teachers that will last throughout the school year.
Stipend: $750
