UNM is seeking a motivated individual with great organizational and communication skills to join our team as an AI Project Manager that will directly support UNM's Artificial Intelligence Steering Committee and associated university-wide efforts. The successful candidate will enjoy working with students, faculty, and staff across multiple departments to advance institutional strategies and values with respect to Artificial Intelligence, and have a natural curiosity about how this technology can best advance the university. This is a three-year termed position, renewed annually.

UNM's Artificial Intelligence Steering Committee was established to coordinate AI related strategy, planning, and implementation across academic, research, and administrative domains. The committee was created in response to the rapidly expanding impact of artificial intelligence on teaching and learning, research and creative activity, administrative operations, and institutional governance. The AI Steering Committee is charged with supporting the ethical, responsible, and strategic adoption of AI technologies in alignment with UNM 2040 goals and institutional priorities.

This position provides operational coordination and project management support for the work of the AI Steering Committee and related university initiatives. The position will coordinate multiple concurrent projects and working groups, support institutional planning activities, conduct research and environmental scanning related to emerging AI technologies and practices, assist with development and maintenance of UNM's AI web presence, and support communication and coordination across academic and administrative units.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates and supports multiple, multifaceted AI related projects and initiatives across academic, research, and administrative domains; administers and coordinates activities of working groups and project efforts; implements project plans and monitors progress and resource utilization.
  • Provides operational support for the AI Steering Committee and AI governance processes, including coordination, research, evaluation, analysis of institutional needs and processes, and preparation of reports and materials.
  • Participates in development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, and short and long range planning related to AI initiatives and institutional priorities.
  • Provides coordination and support for institutional planning related to AI initiatives, including assisting with development of priorities and implementation plans.
  • Supports development and maintenance of content for UNM's AI web presence, including coordinating updates, organizing materials, and ensuring information is current, accurate, and accessible.
  • Gathers facts, researches issues, analyzes potential solutions, compares alternatives, and recommends courses of action related to AI initiatives and emerging technologies.
  • Supports research projects and environmental scans of emerging AI trends, technologies, and practices; assists with preparation of strategic documents and recommendations.
