CT Technologist (Travel Contract)

Location: Charleston SC

Employment Type: Temporary / Contract (13 Weeks)

Schedule: Weekend Day Shift | FriSun, 7:00 AM 7:30 PM (36 hours/week)

On-Call: Shared rotation (23 shifts every 6 weeks)

Job Summary

Under the medical supervision of certified radiologists, the CT Technologist produces high-quality computerized tomography scanner radiographs of designated anatomical areas to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment. This position involves assisting radiologists with procedures, supervising student Radiologic Technologists, and maintaining standard patient care and radiation safety guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Operations & Patient Care (40%)

  • Perform CT procedures following established protocols under the direction of Radiologists.

  • Ensure patient safety, comfort, and age-appropriate care throughout imaging procedures.

  • Verify written orders, diagnosis, and patient history prior to scans.

  • Assist in the clinical education and supervision of assigned student technologists.

2. Equipment & Resource Management (20%)

  • Utilize CT imaging equipment efficiently, focusing on minimizing repeat examinations.

  • Practice cost containment through efficient use of clinical supplies.

3. Patient Communication & Safety (20%)

  • Instruct and prepare patients for imaging procedures; assist in obtaining informed consent when necessary.

  • Communicate clearly with family members regarding discharge instructions.

  • Enter and verify orders, diagnosis, and clinical history accurately in the health records system.

  • Maintain clear verbal and written communication with Radiologists and clinical staff.

4. Compliance & Quality Assurance (10%)

  • Adhere to hospital, departmental, and safety policies.

  • Practice radiation protection in accordance with ALARA principles and regulations set by DHEC, TJC, FDA, and OSHA.

  • Maintain professional licensure requirements and complete annual mandatory in-services.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of medical and sensitive patient information.

5. Team Collaboration (10%)

  • Support the broader imaging team and clerical staff with record maintenance and departmental operations.

  • Demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and teamwork across imaging sections as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

Requirements

  • Education & Credentials: Current state licensure / ARRT (CT) certification (or equivalent) as required.

  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA, DHEC, FDA, and TJC healthcare standards and radiation safety protocols.

  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to operate standard office and clinical software.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to perform and teach complex CT examinations.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Physical: Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and moving/lifting patients (intermittent lifting or pulling up to 50 lbs).

  • Environmental Exposure: Frequent exposure to low-level radiation, blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and standard healthcare chemicals.

  • Work Conditions: Fast-paced healthcare environment requiring ability to work under deadlines and manage emergency/call rotations as assigned.
