Job Title Cross-Country Track & Field Head Coach Position Summary
The head coach is responsible for all aspects of the intercollegiate track and cross-country program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit and maintain a quota of qualified student-athletes who meet the requirements for entrance into Texas Wesleyan University.
- Hire, train, and supervise assistant or student assistant coaches.
- Responsible for fundraising for appropriate dollar amounts through donations or special projects.
- Coach his/her team.
- Oversee the student-athletes GPA requirements each semester.
- Develop a yearly budget and control spending to ensure the sport is not over budget.
- Schedule all contests including scrimmages.
- Be familiar with the eligibility requirements for NAIA student athletes and teams and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
- Complete accurate monthly reports in a timely manner.
- Supervise student-athletes during practice and games to ensure that the highest standards of sportsmanship and integrity are maintained.
- Develop, write and administer a yearly plan.
- Evaluate his/her intercollegiate athletic program continuously.
- Arrange for all athletic awards in his/her area.
- Represent the University in public presentations as needed.
- Conduct outreach activity(s) in the local community.
- Arrange safe transportation for all away contests.
- Attend clinics and workshops to achieve certification and/or keep skills current.
- Assist in the coordination of the departments special activities.
- Serve on committees as assigned by Provost or Athletic Director.
- Available for varied hours, including: weekends and evenings/holidays.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Other duties assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
- Bachelor's degree required, Masters preferred.
- Minimum three years experience in coaching sport at collegiate or university level or equivalency at lower level.
- A valid Texas Driver's License required.
Experience
Minimum three years of experience in coaching sport at collegiate or university level or equivalency at lower level preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of sport coaching required, where available certification preferred.
- Familiarity with NAIA policies and procedures is preferred.
- Ability and authority to drive a 15-passenger van, i.e. a safe driving record.
- Ability to write neatly and accurately.
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate technical skills during practice.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other University employees.
- Instructing student-athletes relative to specific skill necessary to compete in collegiate sport.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to Senior Staff, public groups, managers and employees.
- Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with FERPA regulations.
- Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
- Ability to be able to work evenings, weekends, and possible holidays.
