Critical Environments Operator Level 4

Sterling Virginia Data Center

Hours during training: M-F 8am to 5pm

In September hours will change to 12hour shifts

What we're looking for

  • Journeyman-level skill in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and fire/life-safety systems. This can come from an associate's degree, an electrical or HVAC/R training program, a technical facilities maintenance background - or equivalent military training and hands-on experience.
  • 7+ years in Tier 2/3/4 data centers, O&M, or building engineering roles. Qualifying military maintenance and operations experience counts toward this.
  • Working knowledge of work-order control and CMMS (your maintenance-management system experience translates directly).
  • Experience managing subcontractors/vendor contracts, tracking KPIs, and supporting capacity planning and reporting.
  • Comfortable with hand tools, test equipment, and shop practices at the journeyman level for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Able to read alarms, troubleshoot via equipment GUIs, and stabilize a system long enough to get OEM techs on site.
  • Proficient with PCs, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making under pressure; able to juggle shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment and pick up new systems quickly.
  • Pluses: Visio/AutoCAD, ITIL framework and service-level standards, knowledge of reflectance/length/decibel-loss test equipment.

Standing the watch (schedule & environment)

  • Setting: Highly secure, climate-controlled data center.
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm (front-half or back-half of the week), with on-call duty for emergencies. Rotations include nights, weekends, and holidays to hold 24/7 coverage. If you've stood duty sections, this rhythm will feel familiar.
  • Physical demands: Extended standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, frequent bending, and climbing ladders.
