Critical Care Staff Nurse – ED (Weekends)Children's Mercy's Pediatric Emergency Department requires a critical care staff nurse to provide high‑quality, comprehensive, age‑appropriate nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients and their families. The role focuses on safe care delivery, patient and family education, coordination of multidisciplinary care, and the application of current evidence‑based practices.OverviewThe Emergency Department division serves children and adolescents across Kansas City. Critical care nurses apply the nursing process, collaborate with the care team, advocate for patients and families, and maintain a safe, family‑centered environment.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement a safe, high‑quality, comprehensive, age‑appropriate plan of care for critically ill patients and families using the nursing process.Meet the educational and informational needs of patients and families and advocate for their needs.Maintain an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family‑centered.Apply current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality.Vaccination RequirementsThe seasonal influenza vaccine is a condition of employment for all employees. New employees must be willing to be vaccinated if found non‑immune to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and chicken pox, and/or lacking evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005. Medical or religious exemptions can be discussed with Human Resources.QualificationsAssociate's Degree (ADN) required. Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered. 1–2 years of experience preferred.Bachelor's Degree preferred. Nurses hired after September 1, 2013 without a BSN must complete the degree within five years of hire. No experience required; on‑the‑job training provided.Licensed RN in Missouri or Kansas. An RN Compact license is acceptable; employees must obtain Licensed RN – Kansas or equivalent within 90 days.Life‑support certifications required upon hire.
