Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Health and Counseling Services, the Crisis Prevention Specialist position is essential to the daily functions of the Student Health & Counseling Center for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. This person will assist with offering a 24-hour on call service to sexual assault and sexual violence victims. They are responsible for the development and implementation of educational programs on and off campus concerning: rape, sexual assault, sexual violence, disease prevention, mental health education, managing stress, alcohol, drugs, leadership, having a positive attitude, and etc. This person will work closely with the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards in conducting in class presentations and display tables on campus 2-3 days a week on supportive services offered at the center.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow up with all on call service sexual assault and sexual violence victims.
- Serve as the liaison between the victim and University Counselors to ensure future appointment(s) and services are offered.
- Participates in planning, implementing, and coordinating a variety of student counseling and prevention programs.
- Creates, develops, and implements peer educators programs related to a variety of health issues.
- Provides individual and group student/patient medical and mental health information.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with community partners.
- Provides on and off campus-based presentations and workshops as needed including weekend and evening events.
- Assists in the overall coordination of resources and activities including: crisis services, outreach, and campus-wide student health programs.
- Assist with on-call health and counseling services after hours contact and advocacy when needed.
- Establishes and maintains productive and effective working relationships with campus-based and other essential local and national community-based agencies.
- Provides training to students, faculty, and staff regarding center services.
- Establishes collaborative relationships with the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement to increase student access and awareness of health and counseling care services.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
- A Masters in Health, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Family and Consumer Sciences, Secondary Education, or related field.
- Experience working within a university, counseling setting, or medical facility.

- Ability to establish, facilitate and supervisor student peer educators programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain contact with community partners to act as a student advocate for the purpose of collaborative services and student access to appropriate resources.
- Ability to work independently with student peer educators and staff person in areas related to mental health, student development, and prevention strategies.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan, promotes, and manages on campus and community events related to wellness.
- Ability to develop and disseminate the Units monthly newsletter manually and online.
- Ability to establish and maintain the Units social networking accounts including: Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
