Cummins Behavioral Health Systems is seeking a full-time or part-time Certified Peer Support Professional (CPSP) to be part of our 24/7 mobile crisis team in Avon, Indiana within Hendricks County.

This position shall serve the mental health and addiction treatment population experiencing crisis.  This position works closely with local community crisis systems including but not limited to law enforcement, emergency medical technician systems, and hospital emergency rooms.  This position is mobile when necessary and in coordination with other community safety response systems.  This position may work various shifts of the day/evening or over the course of the week and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Flexible hours within a 24-hour schedule. 12-hour shifts either 7 am to 7 pm OR 7 pm to 7 am with rotation of shifts 4 one week and 3 shifts the following week. We have various crisis shifts including daytime, evening, overnight, and weekends available. Open for discussion about the shift times.
  • The Crisis Peer will be responsible for managing communication around a range of crisis situations, including telephone responses, in person care, and when deemed necessary become part of a mobile crisis response team.
  • A Crisis Peer will assist in providing risk assessments and de-escalation interventions for both existing Cummins' consumers and those not yet engaged in Cummins' services.
  • When deemed necessary, crisis team members go mobile within Hendricks County and surrounding areas. What does this mean? At minimum, a pair of providers go to the home, school, or community to provide thorough crisis assessments and actionable steps to bring safety to the person in need. The mobile teams use contemporary and evidence-based practices (training is provided) to bring those in crisis to recovery.
  • Maintain positive, ethical, and professional working relationships with community, government agencies, and other professionals. Ability to effectively maintain work relationships.
  • Promotes a healthy work environment by demonstrating collaborative decision-making and team-building behaviors; provides peer support and motivates staff to outstanding performance.
  • Coordinate care with a variety of professionals and the consumer's natural support during and after assessments.
  • Ability to write notes in an Electronic Medical Record to update the consumer's treatment team concerning Crisis Intervention Therapist's contacts. Ability to operate PC-based programs including Microsoft Word, Teams, and Outlook.

Education and/or Experience

  • Must be able to verify completion of a state-approved Certified Peer Support Professional (CPSP) training program with passing score on certification exam and with supporting verification documentation. 
  • Require candidates who have lived experience with mental health and/or addictions. 
  • Must have minimum of 6 months employment experience as Peer
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED is also required. 
  • Must possess a valid Indiana Driver's license.
