CITY OF KILLEEN POSITION DESCRIPTION
Crime Victim Liaison
This position acts as a liaison between victims, family members of victims, victim advocates, and various service providers and law enforcement.
The employee will have the responsibility of:
- Notifying victims/family members of Crime Victim Rights and Crime Victim Compensation Program required by law
- Notifying victims of the investigation; assignment of detective; briefing overview of the investigative process
- Assisting victims with completing applications for magistrate's orders of emergency protection, permanent protective orders, and coordinate referrals regarding services
- Completing requests for emergency funds, if applicable
- Providing referrals for victims with need for immediate services
- Forwarding offense reports/documents required by the Attorney General to them to complete the application process
- Forwarding offense reports to the Bell/Lampasas Counties Adult Community Supervision and Corrections Department- victim Services Division for use in completing the victim impact statement/pre0sentencing investigation
- Attending, participating, and presenting in continuing education training
- Assisting in providing training to officers related to assisting victims and witnesses
- Assisting officers with notification to family members of death or life-threatening injury which requires any criminal investigation
- Assisting family members in applying for Crime Victim Compensation, if warranted
- Assisting with scheduling and providing transportation of victims to appropriate victim0related appointments
- Attending and testifying in court proceedings as requested by prosecution or required by subpoena
The work environment will require the employee to:

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Two-year college degree or 60 college semester hours from an accredited college or university with specialized course work in social work, counseling, human services, or a related field; and
- Two years' experience in social work, counseling, human services, or victim services, or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements:
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license within sixty (60) days of hire
- Must have a valid driver's license by date-of-hire
- Must pass through background investigation
