Description

Overview

Cover designs, engineers, permits, manufactures, and builds custom modern homes in Southern California from our Gardena, Los Angeles factory. Our building system is a small, carefully developed kit of parts that we use to produce fully custom single-family homes and ADUs tailored to each client's site and preferences. Our work sits at the boundary of architecture and technology-forward industrialization. A meaningful share of our current work is fire rebuilds for families who lost homes in the LA fires.

This role owns Cover's content. Our clients are making one of the largest purchases of their lives, and most of them will see our work long before they talk to us. This is not a lead-gen role. The job is producing films, photography, and writing good enough to stand on their own, and content that explains clearly why a Cover home costs what it costs.

The brand foundation is already set. We completed a full brand revamp last year and we are committed to the brand guide that came out of it. This role is not a rebrand, and it will not become one for years. The work is producing a steady output of new content within that identity and deepening it over time.

You will make much of the work yourself. Shooting, writing, and editing are part of the normal week, not tasks you hand off. When a piece calls for a bigger production, you bring in outside filmmakers and photographers and produce them.

You will report to Rico Jaeggi, Head of Sales & Marketing.

The role is fully onsite at our factory and HQ in Gardena. No remote, no hybrid.

Role

Make the work. Shoot, write, and edit yourself on a weekly basis. Own production across film, photography, web, social, print, and the physical spaces where clients meet us.

Homeowner stories. Document real Cover clients, including families rebuilding in the Palisades and Altadena. These stories require care and restraint.

Product and price. Shoot the homes, the factory, and the engineering inside the walls. Build the content that explains why a steel home built to this standard costs what it costs.

Commissioned work. For pieces that need a bigger production, bring in outside talent and produce them well. Manage external directors, photographers, editors, and production partners.

The trade. Architects, designers, and brokers shape this market. Build the content, events, and materials that put Cover in front of them.

Brand stewardship. Work within our brand guide and push its expression forward. Protect Cover's brand voice across client touchpoints, from the first ad to the last walkthrough.

Sales partnership. Partner closely with Sales so the story a client experiences online is the same one they experience in person.

Experience

Hard requirements:

Range. A portfolio that moves between registers: documentary human stories, product work, technical and process storytelling. It does not need to check every box, but it cannot be one note.

A maker. You shoot, write, and edit at a high level yourself, with work to show for it, including things you shipped alone on small budgets.

Built an engine. You built the content operation at a brand people respect, as one of its first creative hires, so the output is clearly yours.

Technical. You shoot stills and video on professional camera systems and light your own setups on location. You edit end-to-end: cut in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, grade, and mix to a finished deliverable without outside help. You process and retouch photography in Lightroom or Capture One, and you're comfortable in Figma or InDesign for print and layout work.

Beyond those bars, what separates great:

A rolodex. Directors and photographers you can call, and the production experience to use them well.

Interest in the subject. A genuine interest in homes, architecture, and design.

Considered purchases. Experience marketing decisions that take months and involve multiple stakeholders.

Useful but not required:

After Effects and motion graphics, FAA Part 107 drone certification, location sound recording, Webflow or similar CMS experience, production mechanics (bidding and budgeting shoots, call sheets, permits, talent releases).

Hospitality, luxury goods, editorial, or another high-consideration category. Construction experience is not required.
