The work unit exists to implement the goals and objectives of Colorado Parks and Wildlife's strategic long range and operational plan in order to accomplish the legislative mandate of protecting, preserving, managing, and enhancing the State's wildlife resources in the geographic area comprised of Area 17 in the San Luis Valley of the Southwest Region. The purpose of the Area 17 customer service team is to provide high quality customer service through the sale of licenses and passes; to answer calls about wildlife issues, and advise the public about techniques to resolve or prevent human-wildlife conflicts; and to serve as the customer interface for field officers by handling and dispatching public calls about wildlife violations, injured wildlife, and human-wildlife conflicts.

Description of Job

The purpose of this position is to provide high quality customer service and administrative tasks as part of the Area 17 workgroup. This includes providing diverse customer service to CPW customers - walk in, call in, by email, and/or traditional mail. This includes sales of wildlife and state park products, maintenance of customer records, providing information through direct communication and other methods such as brochures, regulations, bulletin boards, CPW social media accounts, and other informational products. The position operates cash registers and collects payments from customers for sales of license and passes, boat/OHV/snowmobile registrations and permits, and citations. The position answers and documents phone calls from the public and answers questions about hunting, fishing, state parks and state wildlife areas, license and permit products, wildlife, regulations, and living with wildlife and wildlife-human conflict prevention. The position also supports internal operations through administrative duties such as dispatching calls for officers, stocking of office supplies, communication with volunteers and interns, pickup/delivery and distribution of mail, and ensures office equipment and infrastructure is clean, organized, and operational. Serves as liaison with repair vendors, inputs information into various Apps & databases, conducts mandatory wildlife checks, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Provide Service, Sales, and Information to CPW Customers

The CSRs are the public face of customer service at the CPW Monte Vista office. The CSR is responsible to sell products and provide information to customers - walk in, call in, by email and/or traditional mail. This includes sales of wildlife products (hunting and fishing licenses, duplicate licenses, hunter education cards, and refunds), parks products (parks passes, OHV permits/registrations, snowmobile and boat registrations); and maintenance of customer records in IPAWS/PROWL (name and address changes, hunter education verification, and other documentation as needed); maintains and updates informational bulletin boards, seasonal handouts/reports/forms, CPW social media accounts, and informational packets, answers questions about wildlife, state wildlife areas and/or state parks; issues road kill permits, night hunting permits, and other permits; performs mandatory and voluntary animal checks. The position operates cash registers and accepts payments for licenses, stamps, permits, passes, citations, and merchandise. The position is also responsible for handling a weekly deposit and transporting it to the bank. The position answers and documents phone calls and talks with customers about hunting, fishing, state wildlife areas and state parks, license and permit products, wildlife, wildlife regulations, prevention of human/wildlife conflict and living with wildlife. This position must be knowledgeable on regulations, policies, and statutes to provide accurate and up-to-date information to the public.

Provide Internal Customer Service and Administrative Assistance

The position provides internal customer services and operational support, serving as a preliminary point of contact for internal and external constituents, volunteers, and vendors; assesses and dispatches calls to field officers and other Area staff; assists in monitoring and maintenance of Area office copy, phone, and IPAWS/PROWL machines; maintains animal seals and stocks required supplies for animal checks and sampling; facilitates pickup/delivery and distribution of mail; monitors, orders, and ensures standard office supplies, brochures, and merchandise are kept in stock; aids in scheduling of meetings/classes & events; assists Admin III with CORE documentation, monthly billing, and Area staff purchasing/accounting if needed; assists with general office upkeep and cleaning; other administrative duties as assigned.
