Job Description Summary

The CPAC is hiring multiple people at all technical skill levels under the Technician job posting; this Facilitator role requires expert-level knowledge and understanding of pertinent theatrical systems and procedures for live performances and presentations. This is a short-term/temporary position.

DEPARTMENT: Performing Arts & Facilities (depending on event)

VENUE: The Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center (CPAC) at Cuesta College

Objective

Our primary goal is to create a safe and memorable experience for audience members, performers/presenters, and fellow technicians. All CPAC staff are required to participate in training activities and to foster a positive learning environment for our students.

Broad Scope and Function:

CPAC Back-of-House-Facilitator (BOHF) will work under the supervision of the CPAC Supervisor and under the direction of the CPAC Technical Director or Coordinator to prepare for live performances and presentations. During the events, the BOHF will also work alongside the House Manager (FOHF) to set up and operate theatrical equipment for live performances and presentations. The BOHF should possess expert knowledge of both front-of-house & back-of-house systems and etiquette.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

Qualifications for Back-of-House FACILITATOR (BOHF)

  • Expert-level knowledge and understanding of pertinent theatrical equipment used for live performances and presentations.
  • Ability to take instruction and to work well with others.
  • Ability to give instruction, lead multiple crews to complete tasks, and provide constructive feedback to crew members.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet stringent deadlines and work at irregular hours.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and community members.

Duties and Responsibilities for Back-of-House FACILITATOR (BOHF)

  • Safely oversee all back-of-house operations and theatrical systems, including: counterweight fly, fire safety, lighting, effects, sound, projection, etc.
  • Adhere to and enforce all CPAC policies and procedures, as well as ADA regulations.
  • Instruct others (including new clients) in the safe operation of all pertinent theatrical systems, including an evacuation plan in the event of an emergency.
  • Lead others in their journey to acquire expertise in the safe operation of theatrical systems and equipment used in the CPAC.
  • Attend and/or lead training workshops and maintenance calls.
  • Create an atmosphere of mutual trust and support.
  • Represent the District when interacting with performers, presenters, patrons, and members of the community.
  • Work and communicate effectively with students of all skill levels, CPAC staff, external clients, and Cuesta College faculty and administrators.
