The Interpreter provides language access to limited English proficient individuals who are involved in court proceedings so those individuals may adequately participate in the proceedings. The purpose of the court interpreter is to interpret from English to Spanish and Spanish to English in the civil, criminal, and family division courtrooms and for the public in Court Administration or in other courthouse offices if available.
Job Functions
- Provide simultaneous interpretation English to Spanish and Spanish to English in the courtrooms of the 22nd Judicial Circuit, Court Administration, McHenry County Department of Probation and Court Services, and other courthouse offices, if available.
- Provide information to the Language Access Coordinator, regarding cases which require court interpreting services.
- Update the I-justice system with the defendant's language preference.
- Receive and file court orders for requests for interpreters.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, higher degree in language preferred.
- Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Registered or Certified status as a Court Interpreter with the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts - desired.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Ability to obtain registered or certified status as a court interpreter the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts.
