Description
Join our Municipal Court team in a dynamic role that combines administrative expertise, technology, and public service. This position plays a key role in keeping court operations organized and running smoothly-from maintaining accurate records and coordinating hearings to supporting courtroom proceedings and assisting the public, attorneys, and justice-system partners. Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
Establishes and maintains accurate court records. Responds to inquiries which require knowledge of the municipal courts operational policies and procedures.
Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely data entry of all court pleadings including all new cases. Establishes, coordinates, and prepares court cases and dockets. Schedule all court hearings and trials.
Responsible for preparing and clerking the courtroom while effectively maintaining an orderly courtroom. Performs a variety of courtroom related tasks such as operating a digital recording system to create required audio records, and coordinating virtual hearings. Accurately enters court dispositions, including the processing of bench warrants, notices, orders and other duties as assigned.
Provides court or case information to defendants, attorneys, police department, and the public pursuant to open records and confidentiality requirements. Process record and discovery requests.
Acts as a liaison between the Municipal Court and various individuals, agencies, and departments including law enforcement, attorneys, jurors, victims, and defendants in matters before the Court.
Works efficiently demonstrating excellent customer service skills with the public at the front counter, in the courtroom, via email and with telephone inquiries.
Receipt, deposit and account for all monies. Balances the cash drawer daily and prepares daily cash reports and deposits. Processes invoices as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma/GED - required
Some College level coursework in legal studies, criminal justice or a closely related field - preferred.
Experience
2 years experience of increasingly responsible experience in legal/office administrative work - required.
Experience working on computerized records systems including data entry and maintenance - required.
Experience in a municipal court, and/or county court, and/or district court environment - preferred.
Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (in addition to above requirements):
New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, and background checks, which may include local police check and sex-offender registry.
Working Conditions
This position may require on-call work on weekends as needed.
The noise level in the environment is moderately noisy.
Work is generally scheduled M-F, additional hours as required
Physical demands are described as sedentary (exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Involves being stationary most of the time but may involve moving or standing for brief periods of time).
Tasks may require use of a computer for several hours.
