Counselor Trainer
Reports To: Director of Educational Support Services & Parent Relations or Designee Job Goal To provide leadership, training, and program support to school counselors, social workers, and Student Assistance Counselors (SAC) in implementing comprehensive student support services that promote academic success, social-emotional development, college and career readiness, and student well-being in accordance with NJDOE regulations, district policies, and best practices in school counseling programs. Responsibilities Program Leadership and Coordination
Student Support and Prevention Programs
Designs, develops, and supports the implementation of student prevention and intervention programs, including: substance abuse prevention violence prevention mental health awareness trauma-informed supports school climate and safety initiatives.
Assists schools with arranging substance abuse assessments and evaluations, and coordinates appropriate referrals when necessary.
Supports referrals for students and families to community-based mental health providers, substance abuse treatment services, and related agencies.
Observes and interviews students when necessary to support appropriate intervention planning.
Provide district-level support and coordination for schools and families related to McKinney- Vento eligibility, services, and compliance, and collaborate with DCPP to support students and families involved with child welfare services. Collaboration and Community Partnerships
Maintains ongoing collaboration with school counselors, social workers, SAC staff, and administrators to support student programming and services.
Serves as liaison with out-of-district alternative education programs and external agencies to coordinate student services.
Establishes and maintains partnerships with community organizations and service providers to support student and family needs. Data, Compliance, and Reporting
Maintains documentation and prepares data -driven reports related to counseling services, prevention programs, and student support initiatives.
Uses student outcome data to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements to district student support programs.
Supports district compliance with NJDOE regulations related to student services, substance abuse prevention, and intervention programs. Additional Duties
Attends district meetings and participates in committees related to student support services as required.
Performs other duties within the scope of the position as assigned by the Director of Educational Support Services & Parent Relations or designee. Qualifications
Valid New Jersey Department of Education School Counselor Certification.
Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a school counselor or in a related student support services role.
Demonstrated leadership experience in: program development professional development facilitation student support services.
Knowledge of: NJDOE counseling and student services regulations Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS) Social Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks college and career readiness initiatives.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, counselors, educators, and community agencies.
Required criminal history background check and eligibility to work in the United States.
Must meet New Jersey First Act residency requirements (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7).
Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
