Primary Purpose

The GBCDHH counselor provides individual and group counseling, designs and delivers a school counseling programs that focus on improving student outcomes, conducts ARD and Transition meetings and organizes events for families promoting student wellness and success of all stakeholders while contributing the CCISD and GBCDHH mission and strategic plan. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/Licensure

Master's degree in counseling or a similar field from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas Counseling Certificate preferred or LPC, LMFT,LCSW,MSW or LSSP

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Program, preferred

Effective communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Demonstration of counseling skills and techniques including small group counseling

Knowledge of trauma informed practices

Ability to use sign language (preferred but will train)

Strong leadership and team-building skills

Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate guidance curriculum

Knowledge of Special Education Rules and Regulations

Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data

Superior organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision

Ability to be flexible and coordinate scheduling

Experience

Minimum of 3 years teaching or counseling experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Guidance Curriculum

  • Follow district processes and procedures for guidance curriculum implementation
  • Attend district guidance curriculum updates provided by the Counseling and Student Services Department in order to effectively facilitate district required guidance lessons, as determined by the campus.
  • Assist campus counseling staff in providing differentiated guidance lessons to DHH students.

Individual Planning

  • Consider development, interest, academic performance, and assessment outcomes in goal setting during one on one academic conferences and throughout the year.
  • Support and communicate with students, staff and parents or guardians regarding secondary courses, programs, and opportunities during the course selection process.
  • Create and ensure all students have an up to date academic schedule utilizing the current Student Management System that aligns with graduation requirements
  • Collaborate with elementary and secondary campuses to ensure a successful transition which may include campus tours, course selection presentations, course selection materials and program application processes
  • Work with other member districts, parents, and campus staff to ensure appropriate course placement for new students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, students, counselors and parents or guardians regarding the 4 year planning process for secondary students.
  • Support students and parents with the college application process as needed. This may include writing letters of recommendation and assisting with the Deaf Tuition Waiver.

Responsive Services

  • Intervene on behalf of students whose immediate personal concerns or circumstances put their continued educational, personal and social development at risk.
  • Consult with campus staff and parents/guardians regarding students who need continuing support toward their educational, personal, and social development.
  • Guide and support the campus during a critical incident while following the district's critical incident response team protocol.
  • Identify and provide community resources for stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide short-term skills-based individual and group counseling to students
  • Collaborate with parents and staff to support and counsel students whose disability condition(s) is changing.

System Support

  • Utilize district developed materials to train campus staff regarding Child Abuse, Trafficking, Maltreatment, Suicide Prevention, and Trauma-Informed/Sensitive Care.
  • Assist other staff in making referrals to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
  • Work with all stakeholders including administrators, nurses, support specialists, other personnel, community volunteers, and other agencies for the benefit of students.
  • Coordinate events for families to provide access to DHH resources.
  • Coordinate events for students and families to socialize and connect with other families of deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Stay up to date professionally through the selection of quality professional learning opportunities for personal growth.
  • Identify and coordinate with local and state agencies to support students and families.
  • Maintain monthly GBCDHH newsletter to educate and inform parents

Additional Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate staffing for students on GBCDHH campuses and students who may be transitioning from or to their member district campuses.
  • Coordinate and facilitate ARD, 504and transition meetings on campus, complete and process ARD/PEIMS paperwork.
  • Conduct occasional counseling evaluations and provide written assessments and eligibility documentation.
  • Coordinate with campus testing coordinator regarding state assessment.
  • Identify and coordinate with local and state agencies to support students and families.
  • Adhere to Federal, State, and local Special Education requirements.
  • Follow GBCDHH and district(s) policies and procedures.
  • Develop sign language skills so as to communicate directly with students.
  • Implement effective policy-driven decision making.
