Counselor (Clinical) – Onsite | Boys Ranch, TX

Salary: DOE | Based on licensure level
Job Type: Full-Time, Onsite
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm | No evenings or weekends required

Make a Real Difference — Without Sacrificing Your Work-Life Balance

A leading nonprofit residential youth services organization in the Texas Panhandle is seeking a Counselor to join its dedicated clinical team. In this role, you'll provide individual therapy, clinical assessments, and crisis intervention for children and teens ages 5–18 — all within a structured, Monday–Friday schedule that's rare in behavioral health.

This is a mission-driven opportunity for a clinician who is resilient, adaptable, and ready to work within a collaborative, strengths-based model. If you're working toward your full licensure, we have the supervisory infrastructure to get you there.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Services

  • Conduct individual therapy sessions, mental health assessments, suicide assessments, and risk assessments using a strengths-based approach
  • Make clinical diagnoses and develop treatment recommendations, including psychotropic medication management and goal-setting
  • Design, facilitate, and evaluate therapeutic and psychoeducational group sessions
  • Provide clinical support for Adventure Programs and experiential learning activities, including Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Collaborate with campus staff to assess residents and refer for external services, medication reviews, and treatment planning
  • Participate in Intensive Team Meetings to develop team-centered approaches for residents in need
  • Provide clinical training to campus staff on issues affecting children in residential care
  • Attend client team meetings and convey clinically relevant recommendations as needed

Crisis & Safety

  • Provide crisis intervention using approved verbal and physical techniques
  • Assess and report incidents of abuse or potential abuse to appropriate supervisors
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and therapeutic environment at all times

Compliance & Documentation

  • Generate reports, correspondence, and documentation in accordance with licensing and accreditation requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable regulatory standards
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Master's degree required — Social Work, Counseling, Child Psychology, Human Services Administration, or related field
  • Must hold or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire a license from: Texas State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCA/LPC), Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (LSW/LMSW), Texas State Board of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Texas State Board of Psychologists, or equivalent licensure body
  • Experience in equine-assisted or other experiential therapies a plus

Background

  • Experience in chemical dependency, juvenile justice, residential youth care, inpatient psychiatric, or institutional settings preferred
  • Candidates transitioning from private practice should note this role operates within a structured institutional environment (Monday–Friday, onsite, team-based)

Skills & Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional time management and attention to detail
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid Texas driver's license required
  • Ability to bend, lift, push/pull, and perform extended sitting/standing
  • Availability for occasional travel as needed
  • Must pass a background check prior to start
  • Must be local to the Amarillo/Texas Panhandle area or willing to permanently relocate (position is located approximately 45 minutes from Amarillo; on-campus housing is not available)
