The Cougar Market Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the Colleges food pantry and related initiatives. The Specialist helps ensure that students experiencing food insecurity have consistent, welcoming, and confidential access to food and essential resources.

This position coordinates pantry operations, inventory, student and volunteer support, donations, and outreach while working collaboratively with Student Engagement staff and campus and community partners. The Coordinator will also assist with identifying opportunities to strengthen the pantrys services and connect students with additional resources that support their academic success and overall well-being.

  • The Cougar Market Specialist will be a part-time position working 15 hours per week and will support the day-to-day operations of the Cougar Market on the Lee Main Campus while also coordinating food distribution for our Chatham and Harnett locations.
  • The position will report to the Director of Student Engagement.

Essential Duties

Pantry Operations and Inventory

  • Coordinate the daily operations of the food pantry, including established hours of service and student access.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and accessible pantry environment.
  • Receive, sort, organize, stock, and rotate food and other donated items.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify items that need to be purchased, requested, or replenished.
  • Regularly inspect inventory for expiration dates, damaged products, and other quality concerns.
  • Assist with coordinating food purchases, deliveries, pickups, and donations.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to inventory, donations, purchases, and pantry usage.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining procedures that promote efficient, safe, and consistent pantry operations.

Data and Continuous Improvement

  • Track pantry utilization, inventory, donations, and other relevant information.
  • Assist with preparing periodic reports regarding pantry usage and operations.
  • Gather student feedback and identify opportunities to improve pantry services.
  • Monitor trends in student needs and communicate emerging needs to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with assessing the effectiveness and reach of food-security initiatives.

Student Support and Engagement

  • Provide students with respectful, confidential, and student-centered assistance when accessing pantry services.
  • Coordinate donation drives and special initiatives in partnership with campus and community stakeholders.
  • Maintain student privacy and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, student organizations, and campus departments to increase awareness and support of pantry services.
  • Help identify opportunities to integrate the food pantry into broader student engagement and student success initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

Required educational background:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when working with students.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with email, spreadsheets, and standard office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with stocking and maintaining a food pantry, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

Required license or certificate:

  • Valid Drivers license and approval required by the College's liability insurance carrier

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working in higher education, student services, nonprofit organizations, community services, food assistance, or a related setting.
  • Experience with inventory management, food pantry operations, or community resource programs.
  • Knowledge of community resources and organizations that address food insecurity and basic needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
