Job Summary
Seeking a Costing Engineer to support product development by developing cost targets, performing should-cost analysis, and identifying cost-reduction opportunities for mechanical and electrical components. The role will work closely with Design, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide Designers and Design Engineers on cost-effective new and modified product designs.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to evaluate designs and recommend improvements.
  • Support Design-to-Target activities during early product development.
  • Develop cost targets for mechanical components including castings, stampings, extrusions, and injection-molded parts.
  • Develop cost targets for electrical components including harnesses, PCBs/PCBAs, DC motors, and batteries.
  • Prepare should-cost models and analysis to support supplier negotiations.
  • Perform competitive benchmarking and teardown analysis.
  • Participate in Value Analysis (VA) and Value Engineering (VE) activities and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Present project cost updates, risks, and opportunities to management.
  • Provide cost information and support across Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Finance, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Prepare monthly cost reports and track product costs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency with BDI (Boothroyd Dewhurst), A-priori, or similar costing software.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) development and application.
  • Practical knowledge of VA/VE techniques and strong financial awareness.
  • Functional knowledge of 3D CAD software; Creo preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including Casting, Stamping, Injection Molding, Extrusion, and PCBA.
  • Knowledge of related manufacturing materials.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
