Summary:
Becker & Frondorf, an independent construction cost estimating and owner's representative firm, is seeking an experienced Assistant Department Manger to help lead and grow our Cost Estimating Department.
This role is for an accomplished construction estimator who wants to stay close to the technical work while taking on real leadership responsibility. You will remain actively involved in estimating work while working closely with department leadership to manage daily operations, oversee estimating assignments, mentor staff, maintain client relationships, and guide the department's technical quality, staffing, and overall performance.
This position is on a leadership track. As you learn B&F's unique approach to conceptual estimating and demonstrate your leadership, you will be positioned to move into the Department Manger role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review complete conceptual, schematic, design development, and detailed construction document cost estimates.
- Analyze drawings, narratives, and specifications to determine project scope, assumptions, and cost risks.
- Participate in reconciliation with contractors.
- Serve as the acting department lead when senior leadership is unavailable.
- Support senior leadership on proposals and team development.
- Provide guidance and technical review for estimating staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- 8-15 years of experience as a conceptual cost estimator with demonstrated expertise across all design phases.
- Deep understanding of construction costs, building systems, and current market conditions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft and cost estimating software.
- Proven ability to manage multiple client relationships and deadlines with professionalism and accuracy.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with Togal.AI takeoff software.
- Experience with independent cost estimating.
- Professional certifications (ASPE, LEED, AIA, etc.).
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and managing estimating personnel.
