Cost Engineer

The Cost Engineer provides clear financial visibility for capital and operational projects. This role ensures accurate cost tracking, disciplined forecasting, and margin protective decision support. The Cost Engineer partners with project managers, engineering teams, and operations leaders to maintain financial control and prevent cost drift across the project lifecycle.

• Maintain complete cost tracking for capital and operational projects

• Build and update cost forecasts with variance explanations

• Validate contractor invoices, change orders, and progress payments

• Support project managers with budget planning and cost reporting

• Prepare monthly cost summaries for leadership

• Monitor risks that may affect cost, schedule, or scope

• Ensure cost data integrity across systems and documentation

• Partner with procurement to confirm pricing, contract terms, and cost alignment

• Provide cost input for project stage gate reviews

• Support margin protective decision making through clear financial analysis

• Experience in project controls, cost engineering, or project accounting

• Background in refining, petrochemical, energy, or industrial capital projects

• Strong understanding of cost structures, forecasting, and variance analysis

• Ability to interpret engineering documents, schedules, and contractor proposals

• Proficiency with cost management tools and Excel

• Clear communication skills with technical and financial stakeholders

• Experience supporting multi discipline engineering teams

• Familiarity with capital project stage gate processes

• Exposure to contractor management and field cost validation

• Experience with SAP, Oracle, or similar enterprise systems
