The Kostelic Agency has partnered with a growing cannabis company to identify a Cost Accountant for its North Scottsdale corporate office. With approximately $100M in revenue, multiple locations, and continued expansion planned, the business is looking for someone who can bring strong technical accounting skills and a hands-on approach to costing and inventory.

This is a dedicated cost accounting opportunity: approximately 70–80% of your time will focus on costing, with the balance supporting general accounting and month-end close. You’ll join an established accounting and finance team and work closely with supply chain, manufacturing, and operations to understand what’s driving costs and margins.

    Scope & Impact

The corporate office supports five locations across a business currently weighted toward distribution. As the company expands, you’ll help maintain accurate inventory valuations, strengthen costing processes, and give operational leaders clear insight into profitability.

    Where You’ll Add Value

    • Maintain and update standard costs, bills of materials, and cost structures.
    • Analyze COGS, gross margins, and variances between standard and actual costs, translating your findings into practical insights for operations.
    • Reconcile inventory, investigate discrepancies, and oversee physical counts and cycle count analysis.
    • Account for intercompany inventory transactions and ensure accurate inventory movements across operating locations.
    • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and cost adjustments while supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
    • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and assigned subledger-to-GL tie-outs.
    • Strengthen internal controls, maintain audit support, and contribute to ERP implementation and process improvements.

    Ideal Profile

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
    • At least two years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. Cannabis experience is welcome; manufacturing cost accounting experience is required.
    • Strong technical accounting foundation, including GAAP, inventory valuation, standard costing, accrual accounting, and general ledger accounting.
    • Hands-on experience with inventory reconciliations, COGS analysis, and month-end close.
    • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with an ERP system.
    • Ability to explain financial information clearly to colleagues outside accounting.
    • A practical, detail-oriented approach and the ability to stay organized in a growing business.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Base salary: up to $125,000, with some potential flexibility based on experience.
    • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, a 401(k), HSA, short-term disability, PTO, and company holidays.
