Description

The Cost Accountant II position is responsible for maintaining detailed costs in the system and providing cost analysis to support the company. This position will complete analysis of business-unit provided projections related to projects, complete and provide cost analysis to support operations and sales and will train others within the accounting department as needed.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible to support the Cost Accountant I role by assisting with required tasks as necessary to ensure continuity of operations and meet departmental deadlines.
  • Review and validate monthly profit recognition flagging done by project managers and create the monthly journal entry for units of delivery profit recognition.
  • Review and analyze the monthly projection spreadsheets on percent complete / over-time revenue recognition projects as provided by the project managers. Once validated, create the monthly journal entry for over-time revenue recognition.
  • Evaluate open work orders after profit recognition to close or leave open as needed.
  • Responsible to complete margin analysis on the over-time projects around the year-end process to ensure that year over year margin on the projects makes sense and no adjustments are necessary.
  • Collaborate with Cost Accountant I to complete warranty expense analytics on a quarterly and annual basis and report findings to the business units and executive team.
  • Collaborate with the other Cost Accountants and the Cost Accounting Manager to identify and complete departmental process improvement opportunities.
  • Complete and maintain monthly reconciliations and complete research including working with cross-functional coworkers to resolve issues during this process.
  • Create and process other monthly journal entries as required.
  • Assist in quarterly and year end audits by pulling appropriate back-up documentation and completing various profit recognition analysis requirements.
  • Leverage knowledge of Cost Accountant III and Manager regarding cost accounting methodology, skills, and processes. Establish and maintain procedures.
  • Ensure lessons learned applied to future efforts.
  • Collaborate with other professional disciplines throughout the business on technical inquires and needs.
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Competencies)

  • Knowledge of cost accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP especially as related to cost accounting and inventory.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and written.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to efficiently utilize Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with a team.
  • Knowledge of a standard cost system including inventory costing and manufacturing variance analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of US GAAP relating to Cost Accounting.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of general ledger transactions and reconciliation.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate procedures and work processes and to exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods.
  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures including GAAP.

Education and Experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of accounting experience required with preference in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credentials preferred.

Knowledge of JD Edwards preferred.

Base Compensation Range: $59,159 - $88,739 annually

Variable Compensation Range: Incentive bonus eligibility up to 12% of gross annual salary base on company performance.

Professional office environment with some time spent in the manufacturing area. Exposure to conditions, such as: dust, fumes, noise and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures. Machinery with energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, or other energy.
