An outstanding opportunity awaits with our client, a leading company in the manufacturing sector, seeking a skilled Cost Accountant to join their finance team. This dynamic role is ideal for professionals passionate about leveraging financial insights to drive efficiency and profitability in a fast-paced, collaborative manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead in the ERP system.
  • Analyze and interpret material, labor, overhead, purchase price, and production variances; provide clear, actionable explanations to management.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities, particularly related to inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), and manufacturing accounts.
  • Reconcile the inventory subledger with the general ledger and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor valuation and accuracy of work-in-process, raw materials, and finished goods.
  • Participate in and support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, including reconciliation and detailed reporting.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on COGS, gross margin, plant performance, and product profitability.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, engineering, procurement, and supply chain teams to review cost drivers and improve costing accuracy.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities for manufacturing costs, inventory, and plant spending.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and audit/SOX requirements, as applicable.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance cost control, reporting quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support new product costing, bill of materials (BOM) reviews, and updates to cost models as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 2–5+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including work-in-process, overhead allocation, physical inventory management, cycle counts, BOMs, routings, and production reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with ERP systems such as Acumatica.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and internal control requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • CMA or CPA certification is a plus.
